Single Vehicle Crash near Birdseye Injures Two
Dubois County (Birdseye): A single vehicle crash in eastern Dubois County left two men injured, one critically.
At 4:34 P.M., Shane Daniel King, 38, Grandview, was traveling eastbound on State Road 64, about one and a half miles west of Birdseye, in a white 1994 Chevrolet pick-up truck. For an unknown reason, King drifted north across the westbound lanes and left the north side of the roadway, striking a guardrail and a number of small trees. The Chevrolet came to a stop after striking a large tree head on, approximately 140 feet from where it left State Road 64.
Both King and his passenger, 36 year old Shane J. Schlachter, Birdseye, were extricated from the vehicle by Birdseye First Responders. Schlachter suffered multiple lacerations and was treated at Memorial Hospital in Jasper. King was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville and is currently listed in critical condition.
The Indiana State Police were assisted at the scene by the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Memorial Hospital EMS, and Birdseye First Responders.
