SI Residents: Heavy rains have caused the sanitary sewer system to fill up. Toilets may be slow to go down.
Over 5" of rain last night has caused severe flooding on the Island this morning. A predicted 8" tide at 1pm, due to Hurricane Joaquin will only compound the flooding later today. In turn the sanitary sewer system is full. You may experience a gurgling sound from your toilets or sinks. Please refrain from opening any sewer cleanout caps or plugs in your yard which would allow more rainwater to enter the sanitary system or sewage to backup into your yard. This will only prolong the system from recovering. Staff have been attending to the sewer plant all night to try and prevent any Sanitary Sewer Overflows "SSO".
