IMPORTANT WEATHER UPDATE - 10-3-15

IMPORTANT WEATHER UPDATE FROM MAYOR CARMEN AMATO. 10-3-15

The Nor’easter is still affecting our area with coastal flooding, beach erosion, and very strong winds.

These conditions are being produced by The Nor’easter, which has stalled off the coast with an associated low pressure system.

Hurricane Joaquin, a separate system, will pass well to the east of our area late Monday and Tuesday and will not impact our area directly.

Tidal Flooding:
Minor to moderate coastal flooding is expected today and Sunday, and perhaps Monday. Coastal flooding problems will gradually improve early next week.

Winds:
Strong northeast winds will continue today and tonight. Wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph are likely over inland locations. Wind gusts of 45+ mph are possible in coastal areas through the day today.

AS A PRECAUTION: Residents should take necessary measures to secure all of your loose items on your property. Such as patio furniture, chairs, tables, sporting equipment, awnings, etc. For our maritime community: Make sure boats are secured and whips are tightened for a higher than normal lagoon water level.

Rainfall:
Additional rainfall amounts of around one-half inch are expected today, with no anticipated problems.

FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING AND WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL SUNDAY OCTOBER 4TH..

From JCP&L POWER OUTAGES:

If a power outage occurs as a result of the severe weather, customers should call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) to report their outage or click the “Report Outage” link on: www.firstenergycorp.com via smartphone.

In the event of downed utility wires, you should immediately report them to JCP&L at the number above or the Berkeley Township Police Department at 732-341-6600.

Residents should never go near a downed power line, even if they think it is no longer carrying electricity.

ON BEHALF OF THE OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND ALL TOWNSHIP DEPARTMENTS WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THEIR UNDERSTANDING AND COOPERATION DURING THIS WEATHER EVENT.
