Bacteria levels may be high in Creeks and Inter Coastal Waterway (ICW) near station 23 on Sullivan's Island due to a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) on Raven Dr. and Station 23. Bacteria levels may also be high in Cove Creek near Station 19 due to a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) at the corner of Back Street and Station 19.
Sullivan’s Island Water & Sewer Department (SIWSD) crews are aware of this situation and are monitoring the area. Heavy rains over the last few days have caused extremely high flows at the Wastewater Treatment Facility which has caused the entire Sanitary Sewer Collection System to surcharge. SIWSD continues to consult with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) about this situation and will advise the public of any changes.
