East Los Angeles Station Connecting with the Community via Social Media
East Los Angeles Station and Social Media
East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station began the path down the road of social media. We have tweeted, nixled, facebooked, and web’d it up with our station’s web page. Since then, we have made many friends, followers, and likes. From time to time, it can be difficult keeping the community we serve informed about our activities in the areas we serve. These social media avenues are designed to provide information that the traditional media does not cover.
We have also recognized the fact that different people receive their information in different ways. For many people one of the best ways to receive information is via social media (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Nixle, or the World Wide Web). The East Los Angeles Sheriff's Station and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has endeavors to be on the cutting edge of law enforcement technology in order to better serve the residents of Los Angeles County.

Along with the Sheriff’s Department’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/LosAngelesCountySheriffsDepartment) to inform the residents of the county, many of the individual stations have set up a Facebook page to provide more localized information to the areas we patrol. Along with our posting and pictures of what we are doing, we have also privately messaged with residents about “why was the helicopter above my house last night?” and other types of questions. This is not a method of reporting crimes or incidents. Please call the station or 911 to ask for service.

This community-based website mirrors the look and feel of the Department's at http://www.lasd.org but is geographically and topic specific to the area in which East Los Angeles Sheriff's Station serves. Our goal is to update the web page regularly with current information. The web page also has link to other services in the area.
Another important aspect of partnering with the community is hearing what the community has to say. The East Los Angeles Sheriff's Station encourages residents to immediately report any suspicious activity to the station at 323-264-4151, or for crimes in progress dial 9-1-1.
Our station has also had great success with residents utilizing the Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers program. By dialing 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org you are able to report non-emergency criminal activity anonymously. Some of the most common tips we see involve locations where suspected narcotic activity is taking place, upcoming parties/gatherings where drug use and underage drinking will be taking place, or tips regarding unsolved crimes.
Staying informed helps keep our community safe. By partnering with the community and by the use of social media we are able to get this information out to you in a timely manner.
