SPPD Officers Disarm Violent Woman Armed With Shears
South Pasadena Police disarmed a mentally ill woman who was screaming and acting violent.
According to Captain Brian Solinsky, at 2:38 P.M. on October 7, 2015, South Pasadena Police received a call on a woman who was walking in the 600 block of Fair Oaks Avenue. Several officers responded and attempted to calm the woman, but were unsuccessful.
The woman grew more agitated and aggressive by the second, changing from holding the shears near her neck to pointing them at the officers and keeping them at bay. The officers were able to distract the woman long enough for another officer to rush up from behind and grab her arms, while knocking the shears away.
“The officers showed amazing restraint in an incident that presented various tactical and officer safety dilemmas. The woman’s actions allowed the officers the opportunity to safely disarm her. The officers were able to stop the woman before hurting herself or anyone else” said Solinsky.
The woman, a 33 year-old resident of Los Angeles, was taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation and treatment.
