Valdez Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a self-inflicted gunshot injury at a local residence late Monday evening.

Valdez, AK – Valdez Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a self-inflicted gunshot injury at a local residence late Monday evening.
At approximately 11:18 p.m. Monday, Valdez Police and Fire Dispatch received a report of a self-inflicted gunshot injury at a home on Copper Drive. Emergency medical personnel and several police officers responded to the scene and found 42-year old Donovan L. Kelly unresponsive inside his residence. Responders attempted advanced life support measures, however Kelly was declared deceased at the scene.
Valdez police officers conducted a death investigation and the State of Alaska Medical Examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy. Preliminary investigation results identified a self-inflicted gunshot wound as the cause of death. The firearm used at the scene was recovered by Valdez police.
Next of kin have been notified.
