Weekend Crash Involving Alcohol Injures Two
Franklin County-On Saturday October 10th, at approximately 6:55 PM, the Indiana State Police and Franklin County Sheriff’s Department responded to a crash with serious injuries at US 52 and St. Peter’s Road. The initial investigation indicated that alcohol may be a contributing factor in the crash.
The initial investigation by Trp. Chad Snyder indicated that a 2002 Pontiac passenger car being driven by Steven R. Wallace, 44, Covington, KY was eastbound on US 52 near St. Peter’s Road when the vehicle drove off the south side of the roadway for an unknown reason. The vehicle then struck a utility pole before traveling down an embankment and striking a tree. A passenger in the vehicle, Donna J. Humphrey, 47, Covington, KY was seriously injured in the crash. Humphrey was transported by air ambulance to University of Cincinnati Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Wallace was transported to a Harrison, OH hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The collision with the utility pole caused the pole and power lines to block US 52 in the area. The roadway was closed for approximately seven hours while the scene was cleared.
It is believed that the use of alcoholic beverages may have been a significant contributing factor in this crash. At the conclusion of this investigation, the results of the investigation will be sent to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office for review for possible filing of charges against Wallace. The investigation is ongoing.
Trp. Snyder was assisted by Trp. James Herbert, Deputy Adam Henson, Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, the New Trenton and Cedar Grove Fire Departments, Franklin County EMS, UC Air Ambulance, Aligs Wrecker Service, and Duke Energy.
