10/15/15, press release: Cocaine Based Distribution

On October 15th, 2015 the Burlington Police Department Narcotics Unit executed a State of Vermont Search Warrant at the residence of Eric J. Newman, 43 YOA, of St. Paul St. in connection with an ongoing cocaine base (“crack”) distribution investigation.

Employees of the Burlington Housing Authority reported to police that they had made observations of patterns of behavior indicative of drug use and distribution centered around Newman’s apartment. The department’s Narcotics Unit began an investigation into this report, which led to the execution of the Search Warrant and Newman’s arrest this morning. During the search of Newman’s apartment Detectives located 13.6 grams of crack cocaine packaged for distribution.

Newman was transported to Court for arraignment facing charges of Sale of Cocaine (felony) and Possession of Cocaine (felony). Newman has criminal history in the state of New Hampshire that includes felony arrests resulting in misdemeanor convictions.

A person knowingly and unlawfully possessing cocaine in an amount consisting of 2.5 grams or more shall be imprisoned not more than five years or fined not more than $100,000.00, or both. A person knowingly and unlawfully selling cocaine shall be imprisoned not more than five years or fined not more than $100,000.00, or both.
