Female Victim Escapes Police Impersonator

White/Tippecanoe Counties-Yesterday, October 15, 2015 between the hours of 9:30 and 11:00 a.m.in the area of Springboro Road and/or Tyler Road in Tippecanoe County, a female was stopped by a police impersonator and escaped by driving away.

Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Detective Jay Harper has revealed that a female victim was driving her personal vehicle southbound when she was stopped by a black SUV type vehicle with what appeared to be police lights in the front.  After stopping the young woman, the alleged impersonator, a tall white male, walked up to her vehicle.  After a physical confrontation between the woman and the alleged impersonator, the woman managed to escape and drives away.  She drove directly to the Lafayette State Police Post and reported the alleged crime.  The investigation is continuing.  No further information will be released at this time.

If you were in the area on October 15, 2015 and possibly witnessed a traffic stop, please contact the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post at 765-567-2125.  Any information could be helpful in stopping this type of behavior.

It is illegal in the State of Indiana for an unmarked police vehicle with an officer out of their official uniform to make a traffic stop for most traffic related offenses.  If this appears to happen to you, stay in your vehicle, lock the doors and call 911 and report your location and a description of the vehicle and its occupants.  Do not attempt to confront the subject or exit your vehicle until a marked police car or an officer in uniform arrives at your location.
