This is a year around scam but as we near tax season it becomes more important to be vigilant about these phone and mail scams. If you ever receive a phone call from law enforcement, the IRS or any other government agency requesting your personal information, there is a chance it is a scam. Some agencies will call or write you a letter but they should never request your personal information and you should always verify these requests by calling the agency. Double check any phone number they give you against the phone number that you can look up online.
More recently we have had individuals calling around and asking for personal information under the guise that they are working for our City's Public Works department. Please be cautious and verify everything.
