Adult Bear Trapped in East Bakersfield
On October 25, 2015 at about 3:38 am Kern County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an adult bear wandering in a residential area near the intersection of Niles Street and Mount Vernon Ave. in east Bakersfield.
When deputies arrived they were able to locate the bear. Deputies set a perimeter in the area and monitored the bear as it wandered through several yards and jumped fences. Deputies contacted several residents in the area and advised them to stay inside until the bear could be contained.
At one point the bear climbed a tree in the 1300 block of Locust Ravine. Deputies maintained a visual on the bear until Fish and Game personnel responded to the scene. Fish and Game personnel were able to tranquilize the bear and trap it at about 8:00 am. The bear was transported out of the area.
