DETECTIVES INVESTIGATE SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT INVOLVING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENT
Detectives with the Portsmouth Police Department are investigating a suspicious incident that occurred this morning involving a student at Churchland Elementary School. Just after 9:00 a.m., an 11 year old student was walking in the area of High Street and Cloverhill Drive when a blue car, possibly a Honda, approached them. The driver, who is described as a light skinned heavy set black male, tried to coax the juvenile into his vehicle by telling them he had “something special” for them. The juvenile refused, ran home, and told an adult. As a result, officers are stepping up their patrols in the area and are asking anyone who may know anything about this incident to call the Portsmouth Police Department at (757) 393-5300. Detectives are continuing to gather information about this incident and are asking parents to please take the time to read the article below from the National Crime Prevention Council to learn more on how to talk to their children about strangers and the dangers they pose.
