On October 14, 2015 a resident who resides on Long Road contacted 911 at 3:31 A.M. advising that someone had just broke into their residence and was still present in the residence. Deputies responded to the residence and determined that someone had forcibly entered the residence, an outbuilding, and car. The offenders had cut what they thought to be phone lines. The offenders had absconded from the area.
Investigators Timmy Scott and Don Ward followed up numerous leads that lead them from Athens, Alabama to Columbia, Tennessee. The investigation lead to the arrest of Robert Zachary Thompson and Scottie Lee Wayne Lyle. Mr. Thompson and Mr. Lyle were charged with Aggravated Burglary, Burglary two counts, Theft of property less than $500, and destruction or interference with utility line. Mr. Thompson was arrested in Giles County on October 27, 2015 by Deputy Josh Bass and remains in Giles County Jail on $29,500 bond. Mr. Scottie Lee Wayne Lyle was apprehended in Putnam County, Florida and is awaiting extradition to Tennessee.
