Full Notification

On or about 11/4 a County road project to stabilize Rivervale Road (from Old Tappan road to Town hall) will begin and will last for up to 5-6 months. There will be several phases to this project and the total length of each phase and of the overall project will be dictated by the weather. Additionally there will be road closures and detours that will change with each phase of the project. Township officials, Police, Fire, EMS, DPW and the Board of Education have worked closely with the contractor as well as the County to ensure that critical services are not diminished for township residents.

CONSTRUCTION DETAILS

PHASE 1
Phase 1 of the project will consist of the clearing of shrubs and trees on the East side of Rivervale Road in the construction zone. Rivervale Road will be open during this phase of construction however may be closed down to one lane with police officers alternating traffic. This phase is expected to last 1-2 weeks.

PHASE 2
Phase 2 will consist of a complete closure of Rivervale Road from Old Tappan Road south to Piermont Avenue. No Traffic will be allowed in the work zone and will have to follow posted detours. This phase will last approx. 2-3 months.

PHASE 3
Phase 3 will consist of a complete closure of Rivervale Road from Piermont Avenue south to the front of the Town hall building. No Traffic will be allowed in the work zone and will have to follow posted detours. This phase will last approx. 1-2 months.

PHASE 4
Phase 4 will consist of a partial closure of both work zones with possibilities of:
• Traffic flowing in one direction only
• Alternating Traffic
Or a combination of both of the above mentioned solutions at the 2 separate work zones. This Phase is expected to last approx. 1-2 months

DETOUR ROUTES

There will be 2 primary detour routes for traffic to navigate around the road closure that will change slightly during the phases of construction. An East detour that will take traffic through Old Tappan and a West detour that will take traffic through western River Vale/Hillsdale and Park Ridge.

Eastern Detour
• Old Tappan Road > Washington Avenue > Westwood Avenue (Southbound – reverse for Northbound)
Western Detour
• Prospect Avenue > Ruckman Road > Piermont Avenue (Southbound – reverse for Northbound)
