Protect your Property this Holiday Season - Lock it, Hide it, Keep it

Nature of Incident: Increase In Thefts From Vehicles
Location: Citywide
Date & Time: Ongoing
Unit Responsible: Thousand Oaks Police Department

Narrative:
There has been an increase in thefts from vehicles in recent weeks and with the busiest shopping season of the year quickly approaching, many people feel rushed and stressed to get much accomplished. Do not become complacent giving thieves an open invitation to make your home or vehicle a big gift box this holiday season. Remember the phrase “Lock it, hide it, keep it.” This simple phrase may keep you from becoming a victim this holiday season.

The Thousand Oaks Police Department would like to offer the following crime prevention tips:

• Lock your vehicle.
• Do not leave valuables such as purses or wallets, cell phones, computers, or purchased items in your vehicle or in plain view.
• Plan your shopping so that you do not load your trunk until you are ready to leave.
• If you think you are being followed go to a safe area and call 911.

Make this a happy shopping season not a tragic one. If you see something suspicious contact the Thousand Oaks Police Department immediately at (805) 654-9511 or 911.
