In case you missed it, here’s a recap of notable events involving the South Pasadena Police Department during the month of October:
Bike Rodeo: SPPD held its first annual Bicycle Rodeo in the parking lot of the South Pasadena Middle School on Saturday, October 17th. The rodeo consisted of bike safety checks, bicycle licensing, and a skills course where the kids could practice their safe cycling skills. A special thanks to our sponsor Pasadena Cyclery for donating the kids bikes for the raffle!
Coffee with a Cop: Also on October 17th, the SPPD hosted another “Coffee with a Cop” at Starbucks, 1318 Huntington Dr. (Huntington Dr./Fremont Av.) from 8am-10am. The event gives community members and SPPD officers the opportunity to meet each other and put faces with names in a relaxed, coffee friendly setting.
Teen Academy: The SPPD Teen Academy was in full swing during the month of October. The 7 week program held on Wednesday nights from 6pm-8pm gives 27 participating teens the opportunity to learn about law enforcement operations within their local police department. Subject areas covered during the month of October included Communications, Traffic Procedures, K-9 Deployments, Building Searches, Crime Analysis, Crime Scene Investigations, DUI Investigations, and Patrol Procedures/Vehicle Stops.
SPPD Officer Chris Perez Honored: City of South Pasadena Mayor, Robert S. Joe, and Chris Holden, Assemblymember of the 41st District, honored SPPD Officer Chris Perez at the October 2nd City Council meeting for his service in pulling a suicidal female juvenile across the railing of the York St. Bridge on September, 22, 2015.
