Publishers Clearing House Scam: Suspect demands money to release winnings
A Sanbornton resident, who had participated in the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes, received a phone call from a Dave Sayer, stating they won the grand prize. They were told that they won $2.5 million, cash every week for life, and a 2016 Jaguar. Things became suspicious when the person demanded $9,000 be paid to release the winnings.
Sanbornton PD did call Publishers Clearing House and learned that these scammers are impersonating Dave Sayer, their actual "Prize Patrol" official. As expected, they are not allowed by law to require any money to release sweepstakes winnings. This was a scam, and they have been notified of the particulars.
Please remember that anyone who claims you won a prize, but need to send some money to obtain it, are a scam. Please pass the work of this scam to get the word out.
Thank You
