(Blackford County, IN)-The Indiana State Police is investigating a single vehicle crash which occurred earlier this afternoon, claiming the life of 61 year old Dan Thompson from rural Hartford City.
Preliminary investigation by Senior Trooper Mike Swallow indicated at approximately 2:55 p.m., Thompson's 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling westbound on State Road 18 just east of County Road 400 W. It is believed the vehicle began to travel left of center when Thompson apparently over-corrected causing the vehicle to rotate before leaving the north side of the roadway.
The vehicle then rolled multiple times before coming to rest on its roof in a field. Thompson, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Blackford County Coroner. Swallow was assisted by Trooper Eric Treon from the State Police post in Peru, Montpelier Police Department, Grant County Sheriff Department, Hartford City Fire Department, Blackford County Coroner's Office and IU Health/Blackford County EMS.
