BENTON, MISSOURI - Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter reports a Sikeston, Missouri man arrested on Domestic Violence and Felonious Restraint.

Wilburn L. Gifford (41) of 657 County Highway 449, Sikeston, Missouri has been charged with the Class C Felony of Domestic Assault Second Degree and the Class C Felony of Felonious Restraint.

Sheriff Walter states that on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 deputies responded to 657 County Highway 449, Sikeston, for a domestic where the victim had ran to a neighbor’s residence. Deputies arrived and located the victim who stated she had been assaulted and not allowed to leave the residence for approximately six hours by Gifford.

The victim told deputies she had been in an argument with Gifford. Gifford then began to strike the victim in the head with his fists. When the victim tried to leave, Gifford would not let her. Gifford grabbed her by the hair, punched her in the head, and would not allow her to leave. The victim tried to leave numerous times, but Gifford kept striking her and throwing her to the floor. The victim stated Gifford choked her, and she almost lost consciousness. Gifford kept telling her he was going to kill her.

The victim made it outside once, but Gifford caught her. Gifford then dragged her back to the house by her hair. Gifford also pulled his vehicle in front of the victim’s vehicle, so she could not leave.

Gifford eventually fell asleep. The victim located her telephone, snuck outside, hid behind the neighbor’s residence and called 911.

The victim had bruising to her face, under her chin around her neck, and arm.

Gifford was located at the residence, placed under arrest, and transported to the Scott County jail pending the filing of formal charges by the Scott County Prosecuting Attorney.

Gifford remains in custody at the Scott County Jail. Bond was set by the court at $1,500.00 cash only and no contact with the victim.
