Indianapolis Woman Injured in Miami County Crash
Miami County – Today at approximately 7:35 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle crash on U.S. 31 south of State Road 18, in which an Indianapolis woman was injured.
The preliminary crash investigation by Senior Trooper Josh Tarrh revealed that Tyler Padgett, 28, Arcadia, IN was driving a 2001 Kenworth box truck northbound on U.S.31. Antonia Smith, 25, Indianapolis, IN was driving a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder, at a high rate of speed, northbound on U.S. 31. The Nissan rear-ended the Kenworth. The Nissan then traveled through the grass median and across the southbound .lanes of U.S.31. The Nissan came to rest in a field on the west side of U.S. 31. The Kenworth came to a controlled stop on the shoulder of the northbound lanes.
Smith was transported to a Kokomo hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Padgett was not injured.
The crash is still under investigation, but at this time neither drugs nor alcohol is suspected as having contributed to the crash.
Smith was issued citations for driving at a speed too fast to avoid a collision and not being able to provide proof of auto insurance.
