IRS Phone call SCAMS!
The Bordentown City Police Department has been receiving multiple calls from residents regarding the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The calls are from people purporting to be employees of the IRS. The imposters are advising that they must receive payment for bogus tax bills, they are also leaving ‘urgent’ call back automated messages and/or phishing emails. The Bordentown City Police wants to remind residents that the IRS will not call to demand immediate payment. The IRS will not call you if you owe taxes without first sending you a bill in the mail. The IRS will not demand you pay the taxes and not allow you to question or appeal the amount you owe. The IRS will not require you pay your taxes in a certain way, for example paying with a prepaid debit card, ask for your credit card/debit card numbers over the phone, or threaten to bring in the police to arrest you for not paying.
The Bordentown City Police Department wants to remind residents to not give out any information and to hand up immediately! Please remind your elderly family membersand neighbors to not give out any information also!
