El Nino community meeting recap

For those that were unable to attend the El Nino meeting last night, here is a brief recap.

The NOAA meteorologist advised that as of yesterday, the current El Nino is the strongest ever on record. What this means is that the jet stream is expected to dip down into southern California from December through April or May. The potential for storms to stack up one after another is much higher than normal. It is anticipated that we will have a much wetter winter than we have seen for many years.

The theme of the meeting was that basically everyone should be prepared. Don't wait until the last minute to clear debris, or fill sand bags. Drainages on your property are your responsibility. If you are asked to evacuate please heed the warning for your own safety.

All of the handouts that were available can be found at the link below. There is some good information here and worth looking at.

We would encourage everyone to sign-up for the Telephone Emergency Notification Systems (TENS) to register your cell phone, email, or VOIP phone (regular phones are automatically programmed)

We have sand and sand bags available at Mt Baldy Fire Department for residents. Bring your own shovel please. Residents who are physically unable to fill their own sand bags can contact your local firefighter and ask for assistance. He/she will make arrangements to get some to you as soon as possible.

If you are new to the community and have not experienced flooding conditions I would encourage you to talk to your neighbors to find out more about historical flooding problems in your area.

Again, be prepared well in advance. Wet weather could continue into April or May per the NOAA meteorologist.
