Vehicle fire and crash on I-65

At approximately 10:51 a.m. State Troopers were dispatched to the 245 mile marker south bound lanes of I-65 for a fully engulfed vehicle fire.  The 245 mile marker is at the Crown Point exit of I-65 approximately 7 miles south of U.S. 30 in Lake County.  The vehicle is a semi loaded with 4,000 lbs of beauty supplies.  It is unknown at this time the owner/operator of the semi however there are no injuries.  The trailer was not damaged in the fire, only the tractor.

All lanes of I-65 were briefly closed due to the fire/smoke.  The left lane of I-65 was reopened at 11:45 a.m.  North bound lanes are all open.  A secondary crash has also occurred as a result of the traffic backup.   All lanes should be open within the next hour. (1:00 p.m.)

Driver are encouraged to use caution in the area and be prepared for delays and traffic backups while emergency equipment clears the fire.

Assisting was the Crown Point Fire Dept., Lowell Fire Dept. and Midnight Blue Towing.
