Search for missing hunter suspended due to weather
Near ROYAL CITY, Wash. (23NOV2015) – Due to incoming cold weather and snow expected tonight and Tuesday, search efforts for missing bow hunter Thomas Stieg of North Bend have been suspended until further notice.
About 100 searchers combed the area near where Stieg’s truck was found Saturday afternoon. Searchers on the ground and air searched Saturday, Sunday and today to no avail. If the weather is permissible, military aircraft from Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane may fly over the area Tuesday using infrared cameras.
After assessing weather conditions and other factors which may impact searcher safety, deployment of further search efforts will be determined by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office and notice of further activities will be sent out to the public.
It has been a busy past few weeks with missing sportsman in Grant County. On Nov. 4, 65-year-old Connell resident Khampheng Soumphakdy was reported as missing by his family. His unoccupied boat was found floating in Long Lake in south Grant County. It is believed Soumphakdy fell into the water. His body has not yet been found.
