As many of us choose the convenience of holiday shopping online, holiday packages delivered to your home and left unattended creates an opportunity for thieves to take gifts meant for friends and family.

Please consider the following tips:

• Have packages that will be delivered to your home be marked signature required.
• Have packages delivered to a trusted friend or relative who can be home to accept the package.
• Pick up your delivery at the UPS or FedEx store.
• Sign up for email alerts and package tracking so you know the time your packages are delivered.
• Place a vacation hold with the post office or common carriers so your packages are not delivered while you are away from home.
• Report any stolen packages and/or suspicious activity to the Suffolk County Police Department by calling 911.
