Law enforcement agencies in Marin County have received reports from citizens that they have received threatening text messages demanding money. In these cases, the area code from the phone number started with "678". The text message was the following; "I was paid to kill you and I have monitored you for one week, you have 48 hours to send me 5,000 dollars, I have networks world wide and will know if you report this to the police".

An investigation of the phone number that was used in these attempted scams, showed it being used in other previous attempts. If you receive a text message similar to this, do not respond to the text message and call the Sausalito Police Department at (415) 289-4170.
