Fugitive Charles Adams in custody
Escaped fugitive Charles Adams was taken into custody at a fuel station at I69 and US 20 in Steuben County at approximately 5:30PM this evening. Steuben County Sheriff's Deputies were intially dispatched to the CR 150 South and Golden Lake road area at approximately 5:20 PM for a call of a silver SUV driving off the roadway and striking some small trees/brush and then leaving the scene. Shortly afterwards a sharp observer at the fuel station nearby recognized Adams and called Communications. A deputy and Angola police being nearby also observed Adams getting fuel. Adams made a short attempt to flee but was quickley apprehended without incident by deputies and Angola City Police Officers. After his apprehension it was discovered that Adams swallowed purported narcotics and displayed signs of intoxication. Adams was taken to Cameron hospital for an evaluation and then transported to a Ft. Wayne Hospital as a result. Adams was operating a stolen SUV from the Pendleton Indiana area that was reported stolen shortly after his escape. It is believed to have been the vehicle involved in the CR 150 S initial call. Adams also had a passenger that has been questioned but not charged at this time. The Indiana Department of Corrections has been notified and their officers have been sent to Fort Wayne to guard and take Adams into custody from Steuben County Sheriff Deputies.
