Package Theft Prevention Tips for this Holiday Season
***Package Theft Prevention Tips***
With the Holiday’s around the corner that means millions of packages are being shipped across the nation. Some of them may be left at your front door, thus making you a target for theft. Many thieves are looking to go "shopping" as packages are left on your porch or at your front door. Many thieves follow delivery trucks as they are delivering packages in your neighborhood. Thieves make their way up to the front door and steal the packages after the delivery trucks leave.
Please take precautionary measures in order to prevent becoming a victim of package theft. There are a number of delivery options to the consumer that can help reduce package thefts. Some of the things that you can do are:
• Keep the tracking number and closely follow the delivery progress of your package online.
• Contact the shipping company and arrange for delivery at a time when you will be available.
• Contact the shipper(s) and have the package rerouted to a place you trust. Or have the package delivered to your workplace.
• Have FedEx and UPS packages sent directly to one of their local stores or distribution centers to be held for pickup.
• Arrange for a neighbor to receive the delivery if you know that you will not be available.
• Request signature proof of delivery.
• If you are going on vacation, place mail and deliveries on hold until you return from your trip.
• If there are no other options, provide specific instructions about where the package should be left on the property. Chose a location that conceals the package, so it cannot be seen by people walking or driving in the area.
Please be proactive and if you see any suspicious activity that would suggest someone is following a delivery truck or if you see someone remove a delivered package from a neighbor's doorstep, immediately call 9-1-1.
