Gary, Lake County-A semi-truck crashed and caught fire in the early hours this morning causing all west bound traffic to be closed at the 7.9 mile marker on I-80/94 and traffic diverted off at Broadway since 1:08 a.m.
There are now two lanes of traffic opened. The left two lanes (4 lanes) have been reopened. The right two lanes will stay closed for removal and clean-up of the semi, its load and the roadway. It is unknown at this time when these two lanes will reopen.
There is a long delay and back-up in this area not only on I-80/94 but on I-65, please seek alternate routes of traffic. Suggestions are the Indiana Toll Road, US 30, US 20 and US 6/Ridge Road.
