Resident Tip-Off of Porch Package Thief Leads to Arrest

On December 1, 2015 at approximately 6:35 pm, a resident called the Campbell Police Department to report a possible attempted theft of a package from the front porch of a residence on Budd Court. The description of the individual matched a description given of a suspect in an auto burglary from earlier in the day on Curtner Avenue.

Officers stopped Keith Van Winkle, a 20 year old transient, as he attempted to flee the area on a bicycle. Van Winkle was positively identified as the suspect in the earlier auto burglary as well as the attempted package theft. Van Winkle was also found to be in possession of stolen property at the time of his arrest, and a records check revealed he was out on bail for several burglaries.

The Campbell Police Department would like to remind everyone to remain vigilant as thefts increase this time of year. We always encourage our residents that “if you see something, say something” as we work together to keep our community safe.
