Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott urges citizens to be aware of potential rise in thefts due to upcoming holiday season; Deputies arrest 33-year old male suspected of stealing packages from porch

On Monday (12/07), Greene County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a 33-year old male in the area of the 3300 block of South Ridgecrest Avenue in southwest Greene County after receiving a call about a suspicious person possibly stealing mail or packages off of porches. The caller was able to provide a detailed description of the male; during the investigation, another resident in who lived in the 3300 block of South Meadowlark Avenue contacted Deputies to advise she had packages stolen from her porch sometime after 4:00 p.m.

Following a tip with the suspect's possible location, Deputies contacted a male matching the description provided by the witness along with the stolen packages from the Meadowlark address. The male was arrested and transported to the Greene County Jail.

"We have neighbors watching out for one another and without their help or concern, it would have been more difficult to find the person responsible for this crime," states Sheriff Jim Arnott. "Unfortunately, criminals take advantage of opportunities like these when packages are left unattended or letters in mailboxes. We encourage people to either schedule packages to be delivered when you know you'll be home, to an alternate location like a workplace or ask a neighbor to accept the delivery for you until you come home."

The investigation is still on-going and charges have been submitted to the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for review.
