On Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at approximately 11:05 a.m., a hit and run collision occurred at the intersection of Mendocino Avenue and McConnell Avenue where a sedan struck a pedestrian who was within the crosswalk. The pedestrian, a Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) student, activated the warning lights, safely entered the marked crosswalk, and began to cross Mendocino Avenue westbound towards the SRJC. As the pedestrian crossed the northbound lane a light colored sedan collided with the pedestrian and struck the pedestrian’s left forearm and hand. The pedestrian’s rolling backpack was also struck and went underneath the suspect vehicle. The driver stopped and removed the backpack from underneath the suspect vehicle. The pedestrian walked up to the driver who was described as a white female approximately 30-50 years of age. The pedestrian told the driver she had hit him and showed her his wounded arm. The suspect driver then told him to give her his phone number so she could get him a new backpack. After getting the number, she reentered her vehicle and fled northbound on Mendocino Avenue without providing insurance or contact information to the victim. The suspect driver has not contacted the pedestrian victim or the police. The collision was captured by security cameras. Still images of the collision are attached to this release.
The investigation is ongoing and the SRJC District Police are asking anyone who was in the area around the time of the crime and who may have witnessed the collision or the events afterward to come forward by contacting Officer Wright at (707) 527-1000 .
