Mars Hill Road: GDOT press release
PILOT CAR LANE CLOSURE TODAY
Watkinsville, Ga. – Crews are scheduled to pave today flagging traffic and using a pilot car from SR316 across the new Barber Creek to Crooked Creek Drive. Delays are expected today.
“GPs Enterprises wants to take advantage of our warm weather and pave today. Their plan required a pilot car to lead traffic through the work zone causing major delays. Lanes have to be reopened by 4p.m. today. Traffic will be moved to the newly built lanes of Mars Hill from 316 to Crooked Creek Drive. Please avoid the area today if possible,” explained Brent Cook, Georgia DOT District Engineer serving Oconee County.

The new road will have four lanes that are 12 feet wide with a 20 feet wide grassy median. It will also have bike lanes and a sidewalk in each direction. As part of the project, a new bridge will be built over Barber Creek, replacing the existing bridge was built in 1944.
