FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Jackson County, IL) - Officials in Jackson County are receiving multiple inquiries regarding evacuation of the County along the Mississippi River due to potential flooding. While no evacuation order has been issued at this time, there are concerns with this morning's forecast crest of 49.9 on New Year's Day. The record high in 1993 at the Chester, IL gauge was 49.7. Officials will be monitoring the forecasts closely as they may change throughout this week.
Jackson County officials are gathering additional information from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and local levee commissioners. A meeting will be held tomorrow to discuss all response options.
