GCSO Deputies still investigating storm-related death of 60-year old tow truck driver

On Saturday (12/26/15) night after 8:20 p.m., Greene County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area of 7100 East Farm Road 112 for a reported accident in which power poles had been damaged and power lines were down. The vehicle involved in this accident had left the scene and subsequently, a second vehicle driving through the same area ran off the roadway in an attempt to avoid the down poles and lines. Several agencies responded to assist the driver who had become stuck in a ditch including Strafford Fire and Police Departments, Missouri State Highway Patrol and City Utilities. A tow truck was also requested to help remove the stranded motorist.

During the course of the incident, Greene County Sheriff's Deputies left the scene to answer other calls for service. Deputies later learned the 60-year old tow truck driver who was identified as Edward Kammerer had unknowingly driven into the area where live power lines were down and after exiting his vehicle, he was fatally injured. GCSO Deputies responded back to the location to conduct the death investigation which is still open and on-going; MSHP is conducting the accident investigations relating to this incident.

"Our deepest sympathy is extended to Mr. Kammerer's family - this is a very unfortunate, tragic accident," states Sheriff Jim Arnott.
