Press Release - Homicide Investigation
Downey, CA, December 24, 2015: On Wednesday, at around 5:24 p.m., Downey Dispatchers received 911 calls reporting gun shots being fired in the 12000 block of Downey Ave. Shortly thereafter, Downey Dispatch received reports of a traffic collision on Stewart and Gray and Patton. When officers arrived on Downey Ave., they discovered a male adult who was fatally shot in the parking lot.
A description of the suspect vehicle leaving the Downey Avenue address matched the description of the vehicle involved in the traffic collision. Witnesses of the collision observed three male subjects run from a Gray Toyota Yaris. Downey Police Officers detained two subjects a short distance from the crashed vehicle. One of the subjects was suffering from a gunshot wound and was transported by Downey Fire Department to a local hospital for medical treatment. The male subject is expected to survive his injury. The second male adult subject was transported to the Downey Police Station for further questioning. A search for the third adult male subject was conducted but he was not located.
It appears at this time that this crime is possibly drug related and the subjects knew one another. This is an on-going investigation and there will be no further information released at this time. The identification of the deceased victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
