Detectives search for suspect on shoooting
Detectives with the Portsmouth Police Department Major Crimes Unit are searching for the suspect who shot and injured a man on Christmas Eve. On December 24, 2015 at approximately 7:39 p.m., police communications received a 911 call requesting police and medical assistance to the 900 block of Randolph Street for a male who was shot. When officers arrived at the scene they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. Medics transported the male to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries.
As a result of their investigation, detectives have identified a suspect in this case. Detectives are searching for 32-year-old Kennyell Gatling of Portsmouth. Gatling is a black male that stands approximately 5'10" tall and weighs 150 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. Gatling has active warrants on file for malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is known to frequent the Prentis Park and Brighton areas of Portsmouth.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Kennyell Gatling is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP℠. Callers are never asked to give their name or required to testify in court. If a caller’s tip leads to an arrest, the recovery of drugs or stolen property they could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000. This individual is considered armed and dangerous. Do not attempt to apprehend this individual yourself.
