PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF
December 21st – December 27th, 2015

Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations
and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Snowmachine: A caller contacted VPD regarding snowmachines riding on the East Dike Trail where motorized vehicles are prohibited. VPD would like to remind citizen’s that it is against city ordinance to ride any motorized vehicles on the Mineral Creek East Dike Trail.

Found Property: Gloves were found on Pioneer Dr. Contact VPD with description to claim.

Welfare Check: A caller requested a welfare check because they believed the parents of young children were “passed out” and there might not be any heat in the residence. Officers responded to find that everything was fine, there was heat, and they didn’t detect any alcohol.

Animal Impound: Two small dogs were reported running loose in the parking lot of a local business. Both dogs were caught and surrendered the Valdez Animal Shelter.

Traffic Hazard: A man was reported walking down Pioneer trying to hit cars with two sticks. Officers made contact with the subject and told him to stop.

Loitering: A local business reported an intoxicated individual came into the business, laid down on the floor and went to sleep. Officers made contact with the individual and provided them transportation home.

Fish & Game: An injured sea bird was reported lying along side of the road. Officers assisted on bringing the bird to the animal shelter.

Arrested: Glen R Mills, DOB 05/29/70 of Valdez, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence after officers observed Mills lose control of his vehicle. Officers contacted Mills and continued their investigation which led to his arrest. Mills registered a breath alcohol content of .223.

Disturbance: A caller reported a woman yelling in a nearby apartment. Officers responded and discovered a couple having a verbal dispute over cigarettes. The parties were separated for the night and referred to the counseling center.

Fish & Game: A caller reported a possible injured bird in the street acting weird. Local trooper was unable to find an injured bird.

Possible Drunk Driver: A caller reported a truck swerving all over the roadway and peeling out of the parking lot heading to town. An officer made contact with the vehicle and discovered the driver had no impairment and that he was busy running a bunch of errands.

Disturbance: A caller reported that her neighbors were fighting. Officers responded and discovered no physical altercations and it was just verbal. Parties were separated for the night.

Fireworks: Multiple calls regarding fireworks or gunshots were reported at 10-mile early in the morning. Officers did not find anyone in the area lighting off fireworks.

Welfare Check: A caller reported a possible intoxicated male walking down the middle of the road on Meals Ave. Upon arrival, officers were unable to locate anyone walking down the middle of the road.

Assist EMS Crew: Officers assisted EMS with an individual having heart problems.

Civil Problem/Dispute: A caller requested to have an individual trespassed from their property due to civil and custody disputes. Officers made contact with the individual and had them trespassed.

MVA H&R: A caller reported the concrete ballard was hit in the hospital parking lot with no suspect vehicle. Officers investigated and were able to locate the vehicle that hit the ballard and caused the damage.

Domestic No Arrest: A caller reported their neighbors were having an ongoing domestic after hearing threats and screaming. Officers made contact with the individuals who both said they were having a verbal argument. The parties were separated for the night.

Stop FI: Officer made contact with a possible intoxicated pedestrian. They were looking for their dog and were on their way home.

Open Door: A door was reported open at a residence. An officer secured the residence.

Assist EMS Crew: Officers assisted EMS with a man who collapsed at the bakery.

Lost Property: A black bi-fold wallet was lost around Kwik Trip. If found please return to the Valdez Police Department.

Suspicious Person: An individual reported someone at the post office was trying to “jimmy” into one of the boxes and it didn’t look legit. Officers made contact with the custodian and everything appeared to be fine. Further contact with the post master was made to verify.
