Car Thief Not So Sneaky

On Thursday, December 31, 2015, at about 2021 hours, Anderson Police were dispatched to the area of Shady Lane and Red Bud Lane in Anderson, regarding a stolen vehicle. Family members associated with a stolen, red, Dodge, pick-up truck, spotted the stolen vehicle being driven in the area of Red Bud Lane and Shady Lane and observed a man and woman park the vehicle and leave the area.

Police responded to the area and recovered the vehicle which was confirmed to be reported stolen with the Red Bluff area California Highway Patrol. While recovering the stolen Dodge, Anderson Police obtained a description of the driver and conducted an area check. 33 year old, Daniel Lee Patrick of Cottonwood, California, was found leaving a residential front yard several blocks east from the location where the Dodge was recovered.

Daniel Lee Patrick was contacted by police after he was seen leaving the aforementioned yard and incidentally matched the description of the driver which had been provided by witnesses. When questioned as to what he was doing in the residential front yard, he admitted that he did not know anyone at the home but told officers that he was getting a drink out of the hose. A records check confirmed that Daniel Lee Patrick, was on AB 109 / Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) for a prior offense of section 10851(a) of the California Vehicle Code – Vehicle Theft.

Witnesses were driven to the scene where Daniel Lee Patrick had been contacted, wherein, two witnesses identified Daniel Lee Patrick as the driver seen exiting the stolen vehicle and leaving the area on foot. Daniel Lee Patrick, was taken into custody and booked at the Shasta County Jail for a felony count of possessing a stolen vehicle and for a violation of his PRCS terms & conditions. Charges will be forwarded to the Shasta County District Attorney for review and prosecution.

The stolen Dodge pick-up was returned to the Registered Owner.
