On January 6, 2016 at approximately 4:21 am, Pleasanton Police Officer Brad Middleton was conducting a patrol check of the closed businesses in the area of Bernal Ave. and Valley Ave. He observed a 2002 White Ford F-250 Crew Cab pickup parked behind Mike’s Bikes at 6754 Bernal Ave. As he was investigating why a vehicle was parked behind the business at that early hour, he noticed a window smashed at the business and two suspects actively stealing a bicycle. The suspects saw Officer Middleton and immediately dropped the bike and fled. One of the suspects entered the Ford truck and sped off.
Officer Middleton pursued the vehicle from the Mike’s Bikes parking lot onto I-680 south. The suspect vehicle exited I-680 at the Sunol exit and drove through an opening in a fence at the t-intersection and stopped approximately 100’ south of Koopman Road. The suspect, identified as Matthew Allen (05/06/66) of Vallejo, was arrested without incident. Upon closer observation of the Ford the ignition was punched indicating the vehicle was most likely stolen. Eventually the owner was contacted and confirmed the vehicle was stolen earlier that night from San Rafael. The second suspect is still outstanding and is described as an unknown race adult male, with no further description. Allen was booked at SRJ for 459 PC – Burglary and 2800.2 PC – Recklessly Evading a Peace Officer, and 10851 Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.
