Kokomo Man Dies in Howard County Crash
Howard County – Today at approximately 12:10 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Howard County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle crash on State Road 26 at Howard County Road 500 West, in which a Kokomo, IN man died.
The preliminary crash investigation by Indiana State Police Senior Trooper Josh Tarrh revealed that Zachery Shepard, 31, Kokomo, IN was driving a 1999 Dodge Durango southbound on County Road 500 West. Shepard failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection of State Road 26. The Dodge pulled onto State Road 26 and was hit in the passenger’s side door by an eastbound 2001 Chrysler P.T. Cruiser. The Chrysler was driven by Carly Eads, 17, Russiaville, IN.
Shepard died from injuries sustained in the crash. Eads was transported by ambulance to a Kokomo hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She was later transferred to an Indianapolis hospital.
This crash is still under investigation. At this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to this crash.
Senior Trooper Tarrh was assisted at the crash scene by Master Trooper Lee Williams, Trooper Adam Duffitt, Trooper Matt Moon, the Howard County Coroner’s Office, Howard County EMA, the Harrison Township Fire Department, and the Russiaville Fire Department.
