JURY CONVICTS IN BROOKSIDE SHOOTING
DEFENDANT SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON

Today, a Moore County jury found Carlouse Latour Allbrooks, a 33 year old Southern Pines man, guilty of first degree murder.
The conviction stemmed from a shooting that occurred in Brookside Park Apartments on September 12, 2013. Just before 11:00 that night, Allbrooks, known by family and friends as “Smoke”, shot and killed Tyrone Terry Allmond, a 33 year old Southern Pines man in front of several witnesses.

This homicide was one of the shootings and incidents that was plaguing the Brookside Park Apartments during 2012 and 2013, prompting a nuisance abatement lawsuit against the owners of the apartment complex by District Attorney Maureen Krueger.
Witnesses testified that Allmond, who was known by family and friends as “Bone” was having a brief verbal argument with his girlfriend and that Allbrooks, a family friend of Allmond, attempted to enter the apartment where the argument was occurring. Both Allmond and his girlfriend told Allbrooks to leave. Allmond told Allbrooks to just get out and go away. Allmond walked out to his car while he and Allbrooks continued to exchange words. Allmond again told Allbrooks to leave and that Allmond would deal with Allbrooks later. Allbrooks called out to Allmond, who turned towards Allbrooks as Allbrooks began firing shots at Allmond. Allmond attempted to run away from Allbrooks around an apartment building to safety while Allbrooks shot at Allmond nine times. However, Allmond was struck in his chest, side, back, buttocks and thigh by six of the nine shots fired by Allbrooks and fell to the ground, where he died. Allbrooks fled the area.

The Southern Pines Police Department responded to the crime scene and discovered a considerable size crowd had gathered and was growing. While managing the crowd, Southern Pines Police Department detectives initiated their investigation. Allbrooks was arrested in Hamlet, North Carolina.

Assistant District Attorneys Peter Strickland and Tiffany Bartholomew prosecuted the case on behalf of the State of North Carolina.
The District Attorney’s Office would like to thank the Southern Pines Police Department’s officers and investigators for their work on the case. The District Attorney’s Office would also like to thank the witnesses who were willing to come forward with information about the case, and those who were willing testify in court.
Tyrone Allmond left behind a sister, and three children.
Carlouse Allbrooks was sentenced to life in prison.
