Winter Storm Watch upgraded to Winter Weather Advisory from 7pm tonight until 7pm Sun. Blowing/Drifting likely.
The Winter Storm Watch that was in place has been upgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory by the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana.
The Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 7pm (EST) tonight until 7pm (EST) Sunday night.
Total snowfall accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected, higher amounts may occur in the northwestern areas of Marshall County.
Additionally, northwest winds will increase tonight to 15 to 25 mph with gusts as high as 30 mph possible. Winds will remain strong thru Sunday.
The snow will initially be wet and heavy this evening, but blowing and drifting will likely begin after midnight and continue Sunday.
Temperatures will fall below freezing tonight with wind chills dropping into the teens.
Wet and snow covered roads will quickly freeze, making driving conditions hazardous.
Additional Hazard may include reduced visibility due to blowing snow. Power outages, drifting on roads my impact your ability to travel.
Travel advisories or restrictions for Marshall County will be implemented based safety conditions of the roads as determined by the Marshall County Sheriff, Marshall County Highway Superintendent and the Marshall County Emergency Management Agency Director. Decisions to close county roads is made by the Marshall County Board of Commissioners.
The Commissioners do not have authority over Interstate and State roads such as U.S. 30 and U.S. 31, State Roads 17, 10, etc... They also do not make decisions regarding travel restrictions inside city or town corporate boundaries.
There are three (3) levels of restrictions that can be implemented.
Advisory (lowest level)
Watch ( second level) and
Warning (highest level) *requires a signed declaration
