Winter Weather Advisory

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PADUCAH HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 4 AM CST SUNDAY.

* RAIN THIS AFTERNOON WILL LIKELY TRANSITION OVER TO SNOW EARLY THIS EVENING OVER PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI. A SIGNIFICANT BAND OF SNOW IS THEN EXPECTED TO SHIFT EASTWARD INTO FAR WESTERN KENTUCKY AND SOUTHERN ILLINOIS THROUGHOUT THE EVENING. SNOW MAY NOT BEGIN OVER THE PENNYRILE REGION OF WESTERN KENTUCKY UNTIL AFTER MIDNIGHT. THE SNOW MAY BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES AT SOME LOCATIONS. HOWEVER...WARM GROUND CONDITIONS AND AIR TEMPERATURES JUST ABOVE FREEZING MAY MITIGATE OVERALL ACCUMULATIONS AT FIRST.

* MUCH OF THE ADVISORY AREA SHOULD PICK UP FORM 1 TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW BY THE TIME SNOW TAPERS OFF LATER TONIGHT. THERE ARE SOME INDICATIONS LOCALLY HEAVIER AMOUNTS MAY FALL IF THE SNOW BEGINS TO STICK CLOSER TO THE ONSET...OR IF LOCAL BANDING OF HEAVIER SNOW MATERIALIZES.

* EVEN THOUGH MUCH OF THE SNOW ACCUMULATION MAY BE LIMITED TO GRASSY AND ELEVATED SURFACES AT FIRST...SOME SLUSHY
ACCUMULATIONS ON ROADWAYS MAY OCCUR IF THE SNOW COMES DOWN HARD ENOUGH. VISIBILITIES MAY LOWER TO LESS THAN A HALF MILE AT TIMES.

* ANY WET ROADWAYS...ESPECIALLY ELEVATED ROADS...MAY TEND TO FREEZE OVER LATER TONIGHT AS EVEN COLDER AIR RUSHES IN ON THE HEELS OF THE SNOWFALL...CREATING A POTENTIAL BLACK ICE HAZARD. NORTHWEST WINDS WILL GUST FROM 20 TO 30 MPH...CREATING SINGLE DIGIT WIND CHILL VALUES BY LATE TONIGHT AND SUNDAY MORNING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW...SLEET...OR FREEZING RAIN WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES...AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.
