On January 5, 2016, at approximately 4:30 A.M., Lomita Station patrol deputies responded to a prowler call at the “Palos Verdes Villas.” A concerned citizen called Lomita Station when she saw a suspicious male looking into vehicles in the carport area.
Responding deputies found Michael Rodriguez and Danielle Ontiveros, both from San Pedro, hiding inside a stolen Jeep Cherokee. They were detained without incident. Upon further investigation, the deputies discovered the Cherokee was stolen out of Redondo Beach on New Year’s Day. The deputies also found a nearby ransacked vehicle, from which items were stolen. The pair were also in possession of narcotics, hypodermic needles and burglary tools when they were arrested.
Rodriguez claimed to be a member of a San Pedro gang. Rodriguez and Ontiveros both had prior criminal histories as well. At the time of their arrest, Rodriguez was on parole for assault and Ontiveros was on summary probation for vehicle theft. Both are due in Torrance Court on January 7, 2016, where they will be arraigned on the above charges.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department urges citizens to lock their vehicles and hide their valuables from view. Do not give thieves a reason to break into your cars.
This arrest was possible because a neighbor saw suspicious activity and immediately reported it. She was definitely looking out for her community. If you see something, say something.
