City Council Names Police Chief as Interim City Manager
On January 14, 2016, during a special meeting of the Los Banos City Council, Chief of Police Gary Brizzee was selected to lead the City as Interim City Manager. Brizzee will fill the open position created by former City Manager Steve Carrigan’s appointment as City Manager with the City of Merced.
Brizzee’s pay will increase from $11,547 to $12,505 while he serves as Interim City Manager.
Brizzee will serve as the City’s Interim City Manager until the position is filled. The City Council is expected to begin recruitment for the permanent City Manager position very soon.
“We are fortunate to have employees with such a wealth of knowledge to carry on the City’s work until a permanent replacement can be found. I don’t anticipate this change in leadership slowing the City down one bit.”
-Mike Villalta, Mayor of Los Banos
Brizzee is a life-long resident of Los Banos. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice. In 2009, Brizzee attended the 237th Session of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
“I am honored to lead the City as the Interim City Manager. There are a number of projects pending; this role will be challenging for me and I look forward to being part of the City’s continued success.”
-Gary Brizzee, Interim City Manager
Brizzee previously served as the Interim City Manager from November 1, 2012 to April 30, 2013, as the City recruited for the position previously filled by Carrigan.
