On 01/16/2016 just before 7:30 am Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of domestic related physical altercation that occurred at a residence in the 6900 block of N Ray Rd in rural northeastern Steuben County. Once responding deputies arrived, they located an injured man identified as 53 year old Timothy Swager of Fremont who appeared to be suffering from an apparent stab wound. Sheriff’s Detectives were then called to the scene to assist in the investigation which initially revealed that Swager had been allegedly stabbed with a knife by his wife, 56 year old Deborah Swager. Mr. Swager was subsequently transported to a Fort Wayne hospital for treatment. Mrs. Swager was later located in Fort Wayne, IN and taken to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. Following an interview by Sheriff’s detectives, Mrs. Swager was placed under arrest and booked into the Steuben County Jail on one count of battery with a deadly weapon a level 5 felony. She remains held without bond pending an initial court appearance. Mr. Swager was treated and released from the hospital. The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and additional charges may be sought. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were the Fremont Police, the Indiana State Police, and Steuben County EMS.
