100 Year Old Female Dies in Jackson County Crash
Jackson County-Yesterday, at approximately 5:30 PM, the Indiana State Police responded to a personal injury crash on I-65 southbound near the 36 mile marker, just south of Crothersville. The single vehicle crash killed a 100 year old Michigan woman and sent two people to a Louisville hospital.
The initial investigation by Master Trooper Rick Hewitt indicated that a 2006 Buick Rendezvous, driven by Richard Gulbis, age 74, Kalamazoo, Michigan was traveling southbound on I-65 near the 36 mile marker when Gulbis lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the west side of the roadway and overturned. Gulbis and his wife, Sharon Gulbis, age 72, Kalamazoo, Michigan were both injured and transported to University of Louisville Hospital with serious injuries. Sharon Gulbis’ mother, Eleanor Burklow, age 100, Portage, Michigan was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.
Dropping temperatures and a light snow falling in the area may have been contributing factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
Trp. Hewitt was assisted by Trp. Robert Hutson, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, Vernon Township Fire Department, Jackson County EMS, and the Jackson County Coroner’s Office.
