Lake County-An Indianapolis man died in a roll over crash on I-65 this afternoon when he was ejected from the car he was driving.
Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Glen Fifield revealed, at approximately 1:09 p.m., this Thursday, January 21, 2016, afternoon, a 1996 Ford Explorer, driven by James A. Wagner, 52 of Indianapolis was south bound on I-65 at the 244.5 mile marker (this is just 2 miles south of the Crown Point exit) in the right lane. For unknown reasons the Explorer went from the right lane to the left lane, back to the right, then back to the left lane, went off onto the inner shoulder, and began to roll his Explorer.
Wagner was ejected from his vehicle and hit the median cable barrier. He was not wearing a seat belt. His wife, Billi J. Wagner, 44 of Indianapolis, was asleep in the passenger seat. She also was not wearing her seat belt and was tossed around inside the vehicle.
James and his wife were both taken to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point where Mr. Wagner was later pronounced dead of massive head and internal injuries. Mrs. Wagner is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Family has been notified.
